36 Lessons I’ve Learned So Far
Part I
Happy Birthday Week to ME
The week has finally come, and I’m so excited that I made it this far. I can’t believe I made it to 36 years old. I can’t remember how I viewed 36 at 26, but I’m sure it was that 36 “was old.” Do I feel old sometimes? Yes. Getting out of bed takes me a little longer, and the muscles I don’t use tend to ache. Preserving my “youth” takes more effort than expected. I’m learning to lean into the process and accept it as it comes.
Many people will look at my age and automatically think I’m still a “baby” to that, I say go to hell because I’ve never met a “young” person who pays taxes or bills. Spare me with the “aww, you’re just a baby” talk. I find it insulting. Since this list will be long, I will break them up into parts. I don’t want to overwhelm you will all my wisdom.
1. Don’t Focus on straight A’s; focus on passing.
Nobody cares that you got an A in Social Studies. The current school system fails kids with the pressures of getting an A. A letter doesn’t reflect who you are or how you treat people. When graduation ends, and job searching begins, the interview won’t consist of your grades.
